Tuesday, 19 January 2020 marks the 112th Birth Anniversary of Master Khun Yai Chand Khonnonkyoong- founder of Wat Phra Dhammakaya. On this day, we commemorate Khun Yai and her contributions to Buddhism and the Dhammakaya Knowledge.

A brief chronology of the life of Khun Yai Chand Khonnonkyoong and her pursuit of Perfections.

☀️พ.ศ.2452 เกิดวันพุธที่ 19 มกราคม ขึ้น 10 ค่ำ เดือนยี่ ปีระกา อ.นครไชยศรี จ.นครปฐม ในครอบครัวชาวนา

‘Khun Yai’ Chand Khonnokyoong was born on 20 January 1909, in Nakorn Chaisri, to a family of rice farmers.

☀️พ.ศ.2470 ได้ยินกิตติศัพท์ของหลวงปู่วัดปากน้ำ ภาษีเจริญ ที่สอนคนให้เข้าถึงพระธรรมกายได้ เมื่อเข้าถึงธรรมกายแล้ว, ไปนรก, สวรรค์, พบคนที่ตายไปแล้วได้ เป็นแรงใจให้มุ่งฝึกสมาธิเพื่อไปขอขมาคุณพ่อในปรโลก

In 1927, when Chand was 18 years old, she heard about the supernormal meditative powers of the Great Master Phramongkolthepmuni who taught an advanced form of meditation known as the Dhammakaya Knowledge. Chand wished one day she would have the opportunity to meet the Great Master and learn this Knowledge from him in order to seek forgiveness from her deceased father.

☀️พ.ศ.2478 - 2480 ลาแม่และพี่น้อง เพื่อไปพบหลวงปู่วัดปากน้ำโดยเริ่มต้นเป็นคนรับใช้ที่บ้านคุณนายเลี๊ยบ อุปัฏฐากของหลวงปู่และได้พบคุณยายทองสุข สำแดงปั้นที่มาสอนสมาธิที่นั่น, เรียนธรรมะจนเข้าถึงพระธรรมกาย, ไปขอขมาและช่วยคุณพ่อในนรกได้สำเร็จ

Chand left home in 1935 when she was 26 years old to look for the Great Master at Wat Paknam.
She began by working as a domestic help of a regular benefactor of the Great Master by the name of Madam Liab. She met a meditation master named Khun Yai Tongsuk Samdaengpan who was teaching meditation at Madam Liab’s home. Chand eventually attained Dhammakaya and was able to communicate with her father and ask for his forgiveness.

☀️พ.ศ.2481 มาปฏิบัติธรรมที่วัดปากน้ำ หลวงปู่ทักท่านครั้งแรกว่า “มึงมันมาช้าไป" แล้วหลวงปู่ก็ส่งท่านเข้าโรงงานทำวิชชา (ห้องปฏิบัติธรรม 24 ชั่วโมงเพื่อศึกษาวิชชาธรรมกายชั้นสูง)

In 1937, upon seeing Chand for the first time when she went to practice meditation at Wat Paknam, the Great Master greeted her with these words, “What kept you so long?”
Then without having to pass the usual examinations in meditation practice, the Great Master sent Chand straight into the meditation workshop. The workshop was a place reserved for the most accomplished meditators to study the Dhammakaya Knowledge 24 hours a day, seven days a week, non-stop.

☀️พ.ศ.2484 ได้รับมอบหมายจากหลวงปู่เป็นหัวหน้าผลัด (รอบกลางคืน) เพราะความพากเพียรและญาณทัสสนะของท่านแจ่มแจ้งมากจนหลวงปู่กล่าวในท่ามกลางผู้ทำวิชชาว่า“ลูกจันทร์นี่ หนึ่งไม่มีสอง”

In 1941, Chand’s meditation skill was so profound that she soon became one of the Great Master’s most outstanding disciples. He assigned her to be the leader of the evening shift because of her perseverance and meditation prowess. The Great Master called her “Second to None”.

☀️พ.ศ.2502 หลวงปู่มรณภาพ เมื่อวันที่ 3 กุมภาพันธ์ ท่านได้ทำตามดำริของหลวงปู่ที่ให้เผยแผ่วิชชาธรรมกายไปทั่วโลกโดยรอคอยผู้ที่จะมาทำหน้าที่สืบทอดและเผยแผ่วิชชาธรรมกาย

On 3 February 1959, the Great Master passed away at the age of 75. The Great Master instructed Chand to continue to spread the Dhammakaya Knowledge to the world and to wait for key individuals who will carry on his mission.

☀️พ.ศ.2506 ท่านพบเด็กหนุ่มผู้สนใจเรียนสมาธิและมีผลการปฏิบัติธรรมดีเยี่ยมในเวลาอันรวดเร็ว (ไชยบูลย์ สุทธิผล) เด็กหนุ่มผู้นั้นปัจจุบัน คือ หลวงพ่อธัมมชโย

In 1963, Chand met a young university student by the name of Chaiyaboon Suddhipol who was eager to learn meditation and who excelled in meditation within a short period of time. Chaiyaboon is none other than our Most Venerable Dhammajayo-Abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya.

☀️พ.ศ.2510 ศิษยานุศิษย์ร่วมสร้างบ้านหลังใหม่ให้ท่าน, เป็นบ้านไม้ 2 ชั้น ภายในบริเวณวัดปากน้ำทางด้านเหนือ เรียกว่า “บ้านธรรมประสิทธิ์” กระทั่งต่อมาได้มีสมาชิกที่มาปฏิบัติธรรมกันจนเต็มบ้าน

In 1967, Chand’s disciples helped construct a larger 2-story wooden building inside Wat Paknam compound to serve as a meditation center. It was named the ‘Dhammaprasit House”. In no time, the house overflowed with people flocking there to practice meditation.

☀️พ.ศ.2512 ได้รับบริจาคที่ดิน 196 ไร่ 9 ตารางวา ณ ต.คลองสาม อ.คลองหลวง จ.ปทุมธานี เป็นที่สร้างวัดจากคุณหญิงประหยัด แพทยพงศาวิสุทธาธิบดี, ในปีเดียวกันนี้ วันที่ 27 สิงหาคม วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 9 หลวงพ่อธัมมชโยอุปสมบท ณ วัดปากน้ำภาษีเจริญ

On the full moon day of 27 August 1969, Chaiyaboon Suddhipol was ordained as a Buddhist monk at Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen. Within the same year, Khun Yai and her team received 78 acres of land in Khlong Luang, Pathumthani Province from Lady Prayad Phaetayapongsa-Visudhathibodi to build a temple.

☀️ พ.ศ.2513 มอบหมายให้หลวงพ่อทัตตชีโว (ขณะนั้นคือ เผด็จ ผ่องสวัสดิ์) ไปรักษาที่ดิน 196 ไร่ และดูแลการก่อสร้าง ส่วนหลวงพ่อธัมมชโยกับคุณยายทำหน้าที่บอกบุญสร้างวัด และสอนธรรมะอยู่ที่บ้านธรรมประสิทธิ์ด้วยกองทุนเริ่มต้นสร้างวัดมีเพียง 3,200 บาท

In 1970, Padej Pongsawat (Luangpor Dattacheevo) was delegated to look after the plot of land and oversee construction of the new temple. Khun Yai and Luangpor Dhammajayo remained at the Dhammaprasit House to teach meditation and to help raise funds for the construction of the future Wat Phra Dhammakaya. Their starting sum was a mere 3200 baht (US$160 in 1970).

☀️พ.ศ.2518 หลวงพ่อธัมมชโยและท่านย้ายจากบ้านธรรมประสิทธิ์ วัดปากน้ำภาษีเจริญมาอยู่ที่ศูนย์พุทธจักรปฏิบัติธรรมและภายหลังเป็น "วัดพระธรรมกายและมูลนิธิธรรมกาย" มีศูนย์สาขาทั้งภายในประเทศและทั่วโลกมากกว่า 200 ศูนย์สาขาในปัจจุบัน

In 1975, Luangpor Dhammajayo and Khun Yai moved from the Dhammaprasit House in Wat Paknam into the Buddhajak Meditation Center--which was later renamed to Wat Phra Dhammakaya and the Dhammakaya Foundation. Currently, there are more than 200 branch centers spread across Thailand and abroad.

☀️พ.ศ.2531 เป็นประธานกฐินสามัคคีของวัดพระธรรมกายเป็นครั้งแรกในวันที่ 6 พฤศจิกายน ในโอกาสครบรอบ 80 ปีทองคุณยายฯ

On 6 November 1988 and in recognition of her 80th birthday, Khun Yai had the honor of being the Chairperson for the Kathina Ceremony at Wat Phra Dhammakaya. This was her first time in her illustrious life.

☀️ พ.ศ.2541 หลวงพ่อธัมมชโยและคณะศิษยานุศิษย์ พร้อมใจกันหล่อรูปเหมือนท่านด้วยทองคำบริสุทธิ์ เมื่อวันที่ 1 มกราคม ในโอกาสครบรอบ 90 ปีทองคุณยายฯ

On 1 January 1998, Luangpor Dhammajayo and Khun Yai’s disciples throughout the world cast a gold statue of Khun Yai in honor of her 90th birthday.

☀️พ.ศ.2543 ท่านละสังขาร ตอนเช้ามืดของวันที่ 10 กันยายน รวมสิริอายุได้ 91 ปี

On the early Sunday morning of 10 September 2000, Khun Yai passed away at the age of 91.

"คุณยายท่านไม่เคยพูดเลยว่าท่านมีคุณวิเศษเหนือผู้อื่น
กล่าวแต่เพียงว่าใครก็ตามที่เข้าถึงวิชชาธรรมกายแล้ว
ก็จะทำได้เช่นนี้ เพราะพระธรรมกายมีอยู่แล้วในตัวของทุกคน
เมื่อเข้าถึงแล้ว ก็ไปนรก ไปสวรรค์ ไปนิพพานได้เป็นปกติ"

ทบทวนโอวาทหลวงพ่อธัมมชโย
Khun Yai never declared herself superior to another. Rather, she reassured everyone that anyone can gain the same meditative power when they attain Dhammakaya. The Dhammakaya exists in each one of us, and once you attain Dhammakaya, you can visit heaven and hell.

☀️คุณยายฯเริ่มสร้างวัดพระธรรมกายในวัย 61 ปี นำสิ่งที่ท่านฝึกที่วัดปากน้ำมาใช้เพื่อ
"สร้างวัดเป็นวัดที่ดี สร้างพระเป็นพระแท้ สร้างคนเป็นคนดี" เน้น"สมาธิ, สะอาด, ระเบียบ, สามัคคี" ที่ท่านปลูกฝังและใช้ฝึกตนให้มีศีล, สมาธิ, ปัญญา แม้ไม่รู้หนังสือ แต่ท่านมากด้วยภูมิรู้ ภูมิธรรม, เป็นครูต้นแบบ ทั้งความประพฤติและวิชชาธรรมกายที่ฝึกฝนจากหลวงปู่วัดปากน้ำภาษีเจริญ สืบต่อยังหลวงพ่อธัมมชโยเพื่อมโนปณิธานเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนาวิชชาธรรมกายไปทั่วโลก.

At 61 years of age and unable to read, Khun Yai Chand took on the arduous task of building Wat Phra Dhammakaya, bringing with her everything she had learned and acquired at Wat Paknam to fulfill the objective: “Build a temple to be a noble temple. Cultivate monks to be true monks. Develop people to be virtuous people.” She staunchly emphasized cultivating the mind through meditation and instilling the virtues of cleanliness, orderliness, and unity. She trained herself using these virtues as a way to fortify her moral discipline, meditation, and wisdom. Under the vigilant eyes and training from the Great Master Phramongkolthepmuni, Khun Yai developed into an exemplary teacher of the Dhammakaya Knowledge and proper conduct. All of which she assiduously transferred to Luangpor Dhammajayo in order to continue the Great Master’s mission of spreading Buddhism and the Dhammakaya Knowledge to the world.
